Professional info

A robotics enthusiast with over 7 years of industry experience and continued education in product development and manufacturing environments spanning several internships and full-time work including a 6 year-tenure with Norsat International as a Mechatronics Engineer Level 3 on the Product Development Team.

In addition to my Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics pathway), I have taken Udacity's Robotics Software Engineering Nano-Degree program focused on practical implementations of robotics kinematics and control theory, computer vision, and machine learning in software.

I have developed a diverse technical toolkit with mechanical/mechatronic design, PCB design, software/firmware development, fabrication, data analysis, testing, documentation, PDM/PLM management, process management, inter-departmental/client facing communication, and project management skills at my disposal.

I have owned multiple designs from conception to production while managing concurrent projects working to deadline within multi-disciplinary/multi-national teams.

Work experience
Mechatronic Engineer, Level 3

Norsat International - Richmond, BC, Canada

February 2016 to December 2021

Norsat International is a provider of satellite communication products and solutions. I worked for 2 years as a Mechanical Engineer on the Production Support Team and 4 years as a Mechatronic Engineer on the Product Development team.

I have worn many hats and been involved in innumerable projects throughout my tenure with Norsat - see some highlights listed below and over on my Projects page:

  • Lead the skunkworks development for a proof-of-concept Comms-On-The-Move Satellite Terminal capable of real-time satellite tracking and stabilization. I designed and managed all technical aspects of this development - including the mechanical design, PCB design, firmware and software development, testing, and project reporting. My efforts resulted in a functional prototype and formal company approval and budget allocation for subsequent commercial developments. See further details on my Projects page.

  • Lead mechanical engineer/designer/BOM-manager for MIL-SPEC Airborne SatCom Device for a prominent US Defense/Aerospace customer over a 2+ year development cycle from statement-of-work through preliminary/critical/final design to recurrent production and shipment with regular telecom and in-person meetings with the customer throughout

  • Set up and primary owner/operator/trainer of in-house machine shop's 3-axis CNC mill and associated CAM utility (including the development and maintenance of the CAM Post-Processor)

  • Sourced/set up and was primary owner/operator/trainer of in-house Vibration Test Station used regularly for product qualification testing

  • Myriad design/testing/troubleshooting/data-analysis support tasks for ongoing developments and legacy products

  • Received my Lean Green Belt certification and was member of the Lean Committee devoted to assessing and improving operational processes throughout the organization

Mechanical Design Assistant

Fachhochschule Joanneum - Kapfenberg, Styria, Austria

January 2015 to May 2015

Part of multi-disciplinary engineering team working on the design and construction of a high power DC/DC Converter Box with Heat Sink for applications with electric vehicle testing. Tasked with the design and construction of a prototype heat sink compartment to house the electronics.

Junior Mechanical Engineer

Evasc Medical Systems - Vancouver, BC

September 2013 to December 2013

Mechanical design/engineering 4 month co-op student placement at Evasc Medical Systems Corp., Vancouver, BC. Evasc designs intravascular stents and catheter systems for a worldwide market

Junior Mechanical Engineer

Product Design Group Mobility (PDG) - Vancouver, BC

September 2010 to April 2011

PDG designs, manufactures and markets specialty wheelchairs worldwide. My position involved extensive CAD modelling and indexing of all parts used in manufacturing. I designed several custom utility attachments for wheelchairs including a flexibly designed braking mechanism to be fitted to a spectrum of chair sizes which was later mass produced.
